Shakespeare Ink, in association with the Melbourne Shakespeare Festival, is delighted to present: William Shakespeare's 'As You Like It' A pastoral comedy in four Acts Accompaniment throughout by The Swans of Avon, playing traditional and Shakespearean music; "Love is merely a madness, and deserves a dark house and a whip as madmen do. Yet the reason they are not so punished and cured is that the whippers are in love to." An abridged Act One delivers us into the fresh forest of pastoral life. All the world's a stage and in this charming play on the opposition of country and courtly manners, Shakespeare paints scenes of human diversity, laughs in tolerant kind, and judges all by the touchstone of loyalty, natural affection, and the love which surrenders while it teases. was first performed at the 2003 Melbourne Shakespeare
Festival (link)before touring regional Victoria.
The production has been presented also at the
Stratford-Upon-Avon Festival and the Castlemaine
Festival.
